Tips for Landing Your First Developer Job

Journey from Rejection to Developer
I’m Ashis Kumar Rout, and this blog is based on my real-life journey. I faced a lot of rejections, confusion, and late-night struggles while searching for my first job. I hope my experience can guide you in some way.
💬 My Message: I want to advise everyone — keep learning, never stop, and stay strong. One day, your efforts will be rewarded. You will get the job you deserve. I did, and so can you.
During my MCA in 2025, I had many ideas in my mind. I kept learning, practicing, and building small projects. But when I started applying for jobs, I got rejected again and again. I applied on LinkedIn, Naukri, and Glassdoor — almost every night around 12 AM. I attended interviews, but nothing worked out at first.
One day, I got a chance to work as an SEO Executive. I was excited at first, but when I joined, I realized — this was not what I wanted. I was a developer by heart, not someone who wanted to work in SEO. So I left the job after one day.
That decision wasn’t easy, but it was right. I kept going. I worked offline, improved my portfolio, learned more about frontend and backend development. I didn’t stop — even when things felt impossible.
Then came the turning point — I got a job as a Developer at Vawebhub. That moment was emotional. I had finally made it into the field I love. I started working on real-world projects, learned new skills, and got the growth I always wanted.
Now, I want to tell every student and fresher: Don’t settle for something you’re not passionate about. It’s okay to fail. It’s okay to take time. But don’t give up. Your time will come.
- Build a solid portfolio with real projects
- Keep your GitHub active and clean
- Learn Data Structures and Algorithms
- Practice mock interviews and system design basics
- Be consistent and confident
Stay motivated, stay focused. You’re not alone in this journey — I was once in your place, and now I’m growing as a developer.
